I think SMP might be a really good option for people already IN the Stellarium ecosystem (Windows, Mac.) and want to use one (fairly) consistent product across all devices. Similarly priced SkySafari Plus (the mid-range product) seems more powerful to me. I think it's fairly impressive although a little expensive (in Canada).
